From the ATransC perspective, parapsychologists are academically credentialed doctorates trained in a field of study related to unusual human potential such as ESP and psychokinesis. Mind-body duality and postmortem survival are sometimes included in parapsychology but transcommunication is very seldom addressed, other than for the examination of aberrant mental  behavior. 

ATransC is not a parapsychological organization but follows the guidance provided in Lawrence LeShan's book, A New Science of The Paranormal. He makes a distinction between psychical research (filed study of spontaneous events) and parapsychology (laboratory study of events under controlled environment of the laboratory). This echoes our experience that the parapsychological community conducts important human potential research but that it has not been effective in the study of actual human experiences.

Research from parapsychology is important to the study of survival and transcommunication; however, in Etheric Studies, analysis of parapsychological work product is from the perspective of a greater reality, rather than exclusively from the perspective of just physical reality. This means a phenomena such as biofields will be considered from the perspective of how it relates to the etheric personality as opposed to restricting the study to a subtle energy assumed to be a product of biology.
