Board Update

Posted by Tom Butler, 14 February 2011 · 80 views

The new Idea Exchange has been up for a while now. There are still a few bugs but we are happy with how it is turning out. The biggest problems are that the “Recent” tab apparently dropped out of the newest version of the board. It should be back in a month or so. The second is that the front page display of the pictures that are in the photo gallery needs to be improved. They are currently below the forums list We expect a film strip-style display to be available very soon.

The Gallery is a potentially important addition to the Idea Exchange because, as you can see in the Remembering Loved Ones section, members can post pictures of their loved ones. We think this will help give a sense of community for the Big Circle.

We want to be able to protect member privacy while giving the public a look at some of the fine work members are doing, but the public can view selected parts of the Idea Exchange.. For that, members are invited to repost some of their most interesting work in the Sharing Examples with Guests forum. While visitors cannot read the other forums, the public can read those posts, see the pictures and listen to the EVP examples.

We are considering a Wikipedia Editors Club. Members are invited to join in, and if there is enough interest, we will start a forum dedicated to teaching members how to edit. It is almost impossible for one or two editors to prevail in content disputes with skeptical editors and having a place to go and ask for help in a content vote would be a tremendous help in maintaining our point of view in that important public encyclopedia. Send me a personal message if you are interested.

The most important part of the Idea Exchange is member participation. We can create the tools for you to have a place to share your results, ask questions and ask for help with examples, but it is up to you to use them.
